Food Pantries

Grocery Access for Everyone

MFC operates three food pantry locations plus a mobile food pantry in Grand County, as well as a “good neighbor” pantry in Walden (Jackson County). Community members who would like groceries or toiletries are welcome to stop at any location. No appointment, income checks, or other qualifications are required—we provide groceries and other items to all who need them. Community members who visit the food pantry will be asked to complete a short intake form (the information helps secure funding for the food pantries). Stocked items include: canned goods, meat, dairy, eggs, fresh produce, cereal, bread and much more. MFC also offers diapers, formula, and toiletries such as soap, shampoo and toothpaste.

School Totes

“Food that’s in when school is out.”

In 2011, MFC was contacted by a teacher at Kremmling Elementary School with a heartbreaking story. That Monday morning, she had noticed that one of her students was unable to focus and was staring continuously at the teacher’s shirt. When asked about it, the student explained that the yellow shirt reminded him of a banana, and he was so hungry that he couldn’t think about anything else.

Students in Grand County go to school Monday-Thursday, and while the three-day weekend
offers many benefits to families, it can also be difficult for those children facing food insecurity at home, who may not have much to eat between one school meal and the next.
Thus, the
School Totes program was born.

Every Thursday, over 575 food totes are delivered to schools throughout Grand County. Students can access through their school and take home a food tote every weekend. During the summer, totes are located at MFC pantry locations, the local libraries, and human services. Approximately 1 in 3 Grand County students participate in Totes and over 60% of Jackson County students participate.

This program is only made possible by community partnerships: snacks are donated through local food drives and/or purchased from Food Bank of the Rockies,  middle school students pack the totes, while bus drivers and volunteers help deliver the totes to various locations.

Special thank you to:  the Denver Broncos Charities, Louise Powers, Grand Foundation, Sue Swanson, East & West Grand School Districts, Winter Park Christian, Last Time ‘Round Thrift Store, North Park School District, Board of County Commissioners, Fraser River Valley Lions Club, and countless community members who contribute to the Totes program.
