Betsy was born in Heber Springs, Arkansas, but is a proud Grand County local. She moved to Grand in 1984 to work as a day camp counselor at the Snow Mountain Ranch YMCA. She met her husband Reid in Colorado. They moved to Arkansas together, but the mountains called them back, and they eventually returned to Grand in 1995. They have one daughter together named Elisa, and one adventurous cat named Ron.

Betsy majored in social work, with psychology and personal relations training. She has experience in both early childhood education and retail. She grew up working in her family’s jewelry store, and worked for nearly 10 years at the Viking Lodge & Ski Shop in Winter Park.

Betsy also worked at Eternal Hills Preschool in Tabernash from 2004 until 2021. She loved working with children as a preschool teacher and helping develop young minds through play-based learning. When Betsy left Eternal Hills, she applied to work at Mountain Family Center as a thrift store sales associate. Her favorite part about working in the thrift store is helping customers find what they need. She decided to apply to MFC because she respects what they stand for and what they offer to the community. She enjoys being involved with an organization that makes a difference in people’s lives.
