Programs

Researchers have repeatedly linked the strengths of strong communities and economies to strong families. Mountain Family Center Advocates are certified as Family Development Specialists. What does this mean? Households (be it families or individuals) served at the Center have the opportunity to change their lives becoming more personally and financially self-reliant. There is no cost to the household for this strength-based service.

Utility Assistance
Through a generous grant from Energy Outreach Colorado, Mountain Family Center is able to help families and individuals keep their heat on in Grand County.  Please note that all households requesting assistance will be asked to apply for LEAP as required by Energy Outreach Colorado.  Please call the office to obtain an application and to set up an appointment with the Family Development Specialist.  Remember to bring your identification (id card or driver's license) as well as a copy of your utility bills when visiting the office.

Health Advocacy
The Colorado Health Foundation in collaboration with Family Resource Center Association has generously provided funding for a Health Advocate at Mountain Family Center.  The Advocate works with people who are struggling to pay for health care by linking them with services and programs.

Nutrition and Cooking Classes
Cooking Matters, formerly Operation Front Line, are classes that teach nutritious cooking on a budget.  Classes are five weeks long.  Participants prepare a meal during class and are provided with the groceries necessary to prepare the meal at home for their families.  These classes will resume in late February in Kremmling and will be offered in several towns throughout 2012.  Please contact the Health Advocate for further information.

Budgeting Classes
These are difficult times, but not unmanageable with budgeting assistance!  These classes are part of the CSU Extension Program, Dollar Works 2 and will begin in Grand County in March.  For more information, please call the Mountain Family Center.

Colorado Bright Beginnings
New parents learn quickly that babies do not come with an operator's manual.   With Colorado Bright Beginnings, parents of new-born through three-year-olds get a one-on-one or group visit that includes the information you need to know to become your child's first and best teacher.  To schedule your first Bright Beginnings visit, please call the Mountain Family Center.
